Lecture Series The European Union as a Global International Actor - A shared challenge for the EU and China: how to raise profile?

Abstract

The lecture that takes place within the lecture Series "The European Union as a Global International Actor", will first review the EU’s China policy and China’s EU policy and compare the objectives of policies from the two sides. Then the lecture will examine the efforts from both sides in raising the EU’s profile in China and of China’s profile in the EU. Finally, the lecture will analyse the challenges for the EU and China as to how to raise profile in bilateral relations.

Jing Men has been the InBev-Baillet Latour Chair and Professor of European Union-China Relations since 2008 in the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies, College of Europe. She obtained a PhD in Political Science (2004) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Her research and teaching have been focusing on Chinese foreign policy and EU-China relations for more than ten years. She is the founder of the electronic journal EU-China Observer, launched at the beginning of 2009, where she edits and publishes articles on EU-China relations.

The conference of Prof. Jing Men is part of the Lecture Series on the theme The European Union as a Global International Actor, supported by the FNR (RESCOM Scientific Events).

15 conferences are to be held from Mars to November 2014, in three parts: Institutional issues / Policy oriented approach / External perception and impact on global governance.

The objective of the Lecture Series is to bring together leading specialists of legal, political economy or international relations background in order to critically assess the European Union’s external relations in a multipolar world.
